This October I am attempting my first half marathon and I am running for my Uncle Sam.
On the 10th of April last year, we received a phone call that changed our lives forever. My Uncle Sam, aged 44 had a Haemorrhagic stroke. Sam spent weeks in intensive care, months in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, and is now living completely paralysed on his right side in a nursing home. The damage from the stroke also resulted in Sam losing his ability to speak, but despite his lack of speech and mobility, he certainly has not lost his beautiful personality and will to live.
Throughout last year alone there were more than 56,000 new and recurrent strokes – that is one stroke every nine minutes. As strokes are one of Australia’s biggest killers and leading cause of disability, my goal is to raise money for the Stoke Foundation to better improve research, treatment and raise awareness.
I would really appreciate your support and donation for a great cause.
